Scarborough RUFC made it nine wins in a row after a hard fought 36-22 win over Selby at a packed Silver Royd on Saturday afternoon.

Ben Foden’s side made a slow start to the game and immediately found themselves 7-0 down when Foaluhola Vea picked the ball up from the back of the scrum and went over close to the posts. The home side responded in the 15th minute with a converted try of their own as Euan Govier’s offload found Harry Domett on the wing and he crossed over with ease. Both sides then exchanged successful penalty kicks before Scarborough scored on the brink of half-time to take the lead for the first time. Domett bundling through the tackles before reaching to score.

The second half started with Scarborough taking full control of the game despite having to work hard to break through a resolute Selby defence. In the 55th minute, smart work from Jordan Wakeham presented Kahu Craig Te-Ranga with the opportunity to race through and score to the right of the posts. The lead was then extended to 29-10 when Craig Te-Ranga offloaded for Sam Dawson to power his way through to score. Five minutes later, Scarborough had their fifth and final try as Joe Davies offloaded for Jonty Holloway to race through a gap, dodge the defender, and dive for the line. The final 10 minutes of the game saw the visitors score two tries through Harry Tunningley and Harrison Green, to reduce the deficit to 36-22 with the game heading towards it’s conclusion.

Scarborough head into the week off with a 13-point lead over Pocklington, with Old Brodleians visiting Silver Royd on Saturday 28th February.
