Scarborough RUFC moved seven points clear at the top of the Regional Two North East table after a commanding 54-14 win over Old Crossleyans at Silver Royd on Saturday.

Ben Foden’s side made a strong start to the game and found themselves with a man advantage, in the seventh minute, when an Old Crossleyans player was shown the game’s only yellow card for a no arms tackle. Scarborough made the advantage count and took the lead just three minutes later when Jordan Wakeham capitalised on a mistake at the line-out to score. The lead was stretched to 14-0 in the 14th minute when Harry Domett smashed through the tackles and broke clear before offloading for Joe Davies to finish close to the posts. The home side continued on the front foot and ran in another two tries before the 30 minute mark. First Seb Holloway touched down after charging down a clearance kick before Sam Dawson offloaded for Nat Parker to finish close to the corner. Old Crossleyans then enjoyed a period of possession in the Scarborough half and made their dominance count when they scored close to the posts to make it 26-7 at the break.

Any questions of an Old Crossleyans fightback were squashed early in the second-half as Kahu Craig-TeRanga raced onto a loose ball and finished to the right of the posts. The lead soon stretched to 40-7 when Davies doubled his tally in the 52nd minute. Jonty Holloway and Drew Govier scored Scarborough’s seventh and eighth try to extend the lead to 54-7 before Old Crosslayans scored in the corner to bring to an end an entertaining game of rugby.

With Pocklington losing at Selby, Scarborough now have a commanding lead at the top of the Regional Two North East table and are set to travel to Morley next weekend.

Scarborough RUFC extended their lead at the top of the Regional Two North East table after they beat second place Pocklington 33-22 at Percy Road on Saturday afternoon.

Ben Foden’s side made a commanding start to the game and opened the scoring in the 3rd minute when Jake Lyon reached for the line after breaking through the Pocklington defence. The lead was soon extended to 14-0 just 10 minutes later when Lyon spotted a gap in the defence before throwing an ambitious offload that Seb Holloway collected and he raced clear to score. The home side then enjoyed a period of possession and went close in the 26th minute only for a knock-on to halt their progress close to the Scarborough line. But they didn’t have to wait long before they crossed over for their first try of the game. Matty Downes coming off the bench and making an instant impact as he powered his way through the tackles to score. Five minutes later and Scarborough were reduced to 14 men when skipper Sam Dawson was shown a yellow card. Christian Pollock made light work of the penalty to reduce the deficit to 14-10 as the game headed towards half time.

The second half started in emphatic fashion for Foden’s side as Nat Parker capitalised on a loose ball to score to the right of the posts. Ollie Carroll added the extras to extend his sides lead to 21-10. It wasn’t long before the Pocklington defence were under pressure again but this time it was Ropeti Ropeti who powered his way through the tackles to score under the posts. The top of the table clash continued to offer up twists and turns as Pocklington reduced the deficit to 28-15 through a well taken try from Louis Sangwin. When Tom Harrison finished superbly for 33-15, it seemed as if his side were on course for a famous win. But when Jake Lyon and Ropeti were shown yellow cards, it gave the home side a golden opportunity to stage an unlikely comeback. They scored their third try, in the 72nd minute, before Kahu Craig Te-Ranga was the third Scarborough player to be shown a yellow card. Despite the ill-discipline, the visitors held on for an emphatic win, stretching their lead at the top of the league to 12 points.

Scarborough are without a game next weekend, but host Selby on Saturday 14th February as they look to take another huge step towards securing promotion.

Scarborough RUFC made the perfect start to the 2025/26 season after they picked up a comprehensive win on the road at Bradford Salem.

New Head Coach Ben Foden watched his side make a fast start to the game and they took the lead in the 3rd minute. Nazir Karim was shown a yellow card for a deliberate knock on and from the resulting line-out, Sam Dawson crashed over to give his side a 7-0 lead. Playing with the man advantage, Scarborough almost doubled their advantage, just minutes later, but Euan Govier was held up over the try line. Six minutes later and the lead was extended to 14-0 courtesy of a try from Nathaniel Baumann. Ollie Carroll’s grubber kick bounced into the hands of the winger, and he scored in the corner. Attack then turned to defence as Salem looked for a way back into the game. On the brink of half-time, the visitors went close to adding a third try, but a knock-on halted the progress close to the line.

The second half started in fiery fashion with both sides trading early blows in the middle of the park. In the 48th minute, Dawson went close to doubling his tally, but the ball spilled from his grasp close to the line. Seven minutes later and he was presented with another opportunity to extend his side’s lead. This time he managed to break through the tackles before reaching for the line to score. Carroll added the extras for 21-0. In search of a bonus point, Aaron Wilson came agonisingly close to scoring when he made a dive for the line only to be bundled into touch just inches away from the line. The final action of an impressive display saw Drew Govier crash over to secure the five points. The Centre caught the ball out wide and smashed his way through to score. Carroll made light work of the conversion to round off a brilliant afternoon for Foden’s side.

Scarborough welcome Malton & Norton to Silver Royd, next weekend, looking to make it back-to-back wins.

Scarborough RUFC made it nine wins in a row after a hard fought 36-22 win over Selby at a packed Silver Royd on Saturday afternoon.

Ben Foden’s side made a slow start to the game and immediately found themselves 7-0 down when Foaluhola Vea picked the ball up from the back of the scrum and went over close to the posts. The home side responded in the 15th minute with a converted try of their own as Euan Govier’s offload found Harry Domett on the wing and he crossed over with ease. Both sides then exchanged successful penalty kicks before Scarborough scored on the brink of half-time to take the lead for the first time. Domett bundling through the tackles before reaching to score.

The second half started with Scarborough taking full control of the game despite having to work hard to break through a resolute Selby defence. In the 55th minute, smart work from Jordan Wakeham presented Kahu Craig Te-Ranga with the opportunity to race through and score to the right of the posts. The lead was then extended to 29-10 when Craig Te-Ranga offloaded for Sam Dawson to power his way through to score. Five minutes later, Scarborough had their fifth and final try as Joe Davies offloaded for Jonty Holloway to race through a gap, dodge the defender, and dive for the line. The final 10 minutes of the game saw the visitors score two tries through Harry Tunningley and Harrison Green, to reduce the deficit to 36-22 with the game heading towards it’s conclusion.

Scarborough head into the week off with a 13-point lead over Pocklington, with Old Brodleians visiting Silver Royd on Saturday 28th February.
