Scunthorpe Stallions

W 14-25

Scarborough - Vikings

By Craig Bone

Vikings travelled to Scunthorpe this weekend for a must win game.

Scunthorpe provided a real stern test at Silver Royd earlier in the season.

Scarborough started by far the better team with a penalty from Alex Rowley giving the Vikings a 3-0 lead which was short lived when the Vikings let Scunthorpe get some phases together leading to a try which was converted – 3-7

This was the score at half-time. From the kick-off Scunthorpe got a scrum under the Vikings post and a try was scored – 3-14; Vikings had to dig deep. Scarborough, like the 1st half again, here knocking on the door when – on our own 10 metre line – Tom Anderson was unleashed like a greyhound in trap 6 to go full length of the field; converted by Rowley. The pack were now turning the screw – great line-out work from Jordan Day, Rennard, Sargeant, along with the pure graft and massive hearts of Helms, Peate, Read, Davies, Dennis. Getting us another penalty – 13-14

Hutchinson now on the field was just a menace around the park, and pack leader Leah organising his men well.

Turnover ball in midfield again sent Tom Anderson in, giving the Vikings 18-14 lead. Again half backs Rowley and Costine giving the go-forward with Emsley, Morrell smashing the Scunthorpe solid defence down, Ward and Monsey offering elegant touches in attack.

10 minutes to go Skipper Rossol with 2 defenders on his back ran 20 metres to score under the post – converted by Rowley. Final score 25-14 to the Vikings.

The whole pack were just immense with Will Rennard getting Man of the Match for his tireless work rate and numerous carries.

Coach Bone said β€œWe got it 100% right today.Β The best Vikings performance of this season against a very solid Scunthorpe side.”
