Scarborough ran in six tries on the road in consecutive weeks with the 38-19 Yorkshire Shield defeat of Old Brods at Hipperholme this afternoon.
Playing without the services of front-rowers Sam Dawson and Nino Cutino, sent off in last weekβs win at Middlesbrough, Coach Simon Smith drafted in Paul Taylor and Mikey Whitton.
The Seasiders fell 0-7 behind to an early Old Brodsβ converted try but quickly got back on level terms with a touchdown from centre Tom Ratcliffe converted by fly-half Tom Harrison.
Tries from second row Phil Watson and scrum-half Jordi Wakeham stretched the visitors lead to 21-7 before the west Yorkshiremen reduced the arrears to 14-21 at the break with a second converted try.
Some champagne rugby from the visitors after the break saw fullback Jim Perrett stretch the lead to 26-14. However, Brods bounced back to reign in the Seasiders with a further unconverted score for 26-19.
Scarborough pulled away in the fourth quarter through a long-distance breakaway second try for Perrett converted by Harrison before skipper Matty Jones ensured progress in the competition with a late try for a deserved 38-19 win.
Coach Simon Smith will be delighted with the efforts of his charges in a hard-fought game. Scarborough entertains Old Brodlieans at Silver Royd next week.
