Scarborough continued their promotion push with a fighting performance and a five try win at Old Brodlieans yesterday.
Playing down the infamous Hipperholme slope in the first half Scarborough took an early lead when lock Phil Watson went over and fly-half Tom Ratcliffe converted for 7-0.
A penalty apiece was followed by a try from Old Brods’ Chris Vine converted by fullback Danny Belcher to level the scores at 10-10 in the 20th minute.
Scarborough turned the screw on the home line in the second quarter and were awarded a penalty in the 35th minute; skipper Matty Jones took a quick tap and centre Jimmy Perrett powered over for Scarborough to lead 15-10 at the break.
Playing up the slope in the second half Scarborough conceded an early penalty which cut their lead to 15-13. However they exerted massive forward pressure and went through the phases before Watson barged over for his second try converted by Ratcliffe for 22-13. Brods replied six minutes later with a converted try to peg the visitors back at 22-20.
Scarborough continued to pile the pressure on through their powerful pack and were awarded a penalty try following a five metre scrum for a 29-20 lead.
The end to end nature of the game continued and following a turnover Perrett raced away for a try between the posts converted by Ratcliffe to stretch the lead to 36-20. Brods drove over from a catch and drive late in the game but the visitors saw the game out for a well-deserved 36-27 win.
Spirits in the camp will be high after a hard-fought win following a terrific match and home games against North Ribblesdale and Old Rishworthians to come.
