W 7-17

Scarborough - Vikings

By Craig Bone

Vikings started the 2019/20 season away to newly promoted Hullensians 2nds.

For the first 20 minutes the Vikings got themselves into arm wrestle against a very wily Hullensians team.

Inside ball from skipper Rowley to the very enthusiastic Hutchinson who scored a great open side try.

5-0 to Vikings at half time.

Second half started with a little more go forward from Watson, Read and co-captain Leah, but just time after time couldn’t finish off the promising threats into points.

A great forwards try from Will Rennard converted by Rowley put the Vikings 12-0 up, then 10 minutes later a deft kick to the corner from Rowley gave Winger Tom Anderson a try in the corner uncoverted, Vikings 17-0 up, late rally from the home side got them a try and conversion giving the final score 17-7 to the Vikings.

A very warm day didn’t deter either side of trying to play rugby, Vikings at times showed glimpses of brilliance but it was our first competitive game of the season, so still a bit rusty.

Manager Bone was impressed with lots of aspects of the Vikings game, a little bit to work on but mostly very positive on our first game of the season in how we tried to develop a new way of playing the team in front of us.

Man of the Match – Open Side Elliot Hutchinson was brilliant today in both attack and defence.
