Malton & Norton

L 21-17

Scarborough - Vikings

By Craig Bone

After 2 weeks rest the Vikings travelled to local rivals Malton.

Vikings putting out a big pack, which included the lighter version of Mikey Readman starting in the back row, Vikings started much the brighter with a lovely break by Alex Paddock putting Sam Jackson under the post which Paddock converted.

From the kick off an unforced error gave Malton a try straight back which again was converted. A penalty was then awarded to the Vikings under the sticks which Paddock made sure of 10-7 in favour of the Vikings at Half time.

The first ten minutes was a bit of a arm wrestle which saw Malton get two break-away tries giving them a unlikely lead of 21-10. There where a lot of tired bodies now on both sides. James Long scored a brilliant individual try which again was converted giving the last 5 minutes a nail-biting finish, but it wasn’t to be.

The final score 21-17 to Malton.

Every player didn’t leave anything in the changing room, brilliant performance showing some amazing bravery, Ed Hopper had another great game as did Alex Paddock and Chris Mabbett, to name but a few but Man of the Match was Josh Symonds for his general work rate in both the set piece and around the park.
