Scarborough - Vikings
By Craig Bone
Vikings travelled to Beverley with the hope of avenging last season’s away loss.
With a change of personnel from last weeks win, Sam Else ,Matty Ward and Josh Broadhead all coming in and the three of them where absolutely brilliant.
Beverley started the better after 5 minutes scoring a converted try from a charge-down kick.
Then Beverley scored again against a lacklustre defence. Vikings then rolled up their sleeves up with the front row of Sam Peate, Sam Pollock and outstanding Jordan Day taking the arm wrestle to Beverley, Will Rennard and Tom Read smashing the Beverley forwards backwards, finally Jordan Day wrestled over to score a well deserved try – converted by Captain Alex Rowley. The first half closing in favour of Beverley 15-7.
Second half started much better for the Vikings. A lineout taken down and mauled then shipped to backs for Tom Anderson to score Rowley converted, then ten minutes later from great team work Jordan Day again scores in the corner.
Beverley then score against the run of play – 22-19 to Beverley. Some great passages of play and another high tackle give Captain Rowley a chance to draw the match with a penalty from 30 metres which he made. Vikings, down to 14 men for the last 10 minutes due to injuries, let Beverley score in the dying minutes to come away with a moral victory losing 29-22 against a very good Beverley side bolstered by four South Sea islanders from the local army barracks.
Some great performances from everyone who put the Scarborough shirt on today. MOM Josh Broadhead – just beat off Rennard and young winger Reece Corney.
Outstanding performance with some true grit and never give up attitude.
